8 Free Stock Image Sites to Make Your Social Media Accounts Pop!
Social media is now a supremely important part of any business. If you want to make a real impact with your social media accounts, you need stock images that are clear, beautiful and really get across to your customer your look, feel and impression.
Sure, you can take photographs yourself. I encourage that! There are many fantastic filters for smartphones now that make even the worst photographer look pretty darn good. Plus your customers always want to see photographs of your staff and customers. But there is nothing like the power of a professional image. And that usually screams ‘expensive’!
But, there are a variety of Stock Image Sites around now that provide beautiful FREE images to use, without the need for a special image licence. Because some stock image sites can charge up to $60 for a single photograph!
Here is a list of what we think are the very best FREE stock image sites around. No catches!
Pexels
Pexels has some absolutely gorgeous free stock images. The site was fairly limited until recently, but now the collection is growing every day. The images are totally free for personal and commercial use. You can modify, copy and distribute the photographs as you see fit.
Unsplash
Unsplash is a website put together by professional photographers for the greater good. They have in excess of 300,000 free stock images, all high-resolution photographs. You do need to join the community to use them, but this is free, and it is fairly straightforward. Attribution is required, however, which is pretty easy!
Pixabay
Pixabay shares copyright-free images and videos. All are free and don’t require credit to the photographer and can be used for both personal and commercial use.
Picjumbo
Picjumbo has loads of free stock images but also has a paid area and premium site. Attribution of the photographs is not necessary, but encouraged!
Gratisograhy
Gratisography offers free high-resolution images for use on personal and commercial projects free of copyright restrictions. The website covers images such as animals, nature, objects, people, urban, and whimsical. The photographs are stunning!
Morguefile
Sounds dark, right? But it is a great stock image site. It has both photographs and videos. The dark name is a throw-back to the old newspaper days when the term ‘Morgue File’ was used to describe files that held past issues.
New Old Stock
If vintage and black and white photographs are your thing and suit your brand, then New Old Stock is the stock image site for you! You do need to check each photograph for the rights to use commercially, but most of the time you just need to link back to the original image and give the site a shout out on Twitter.
Picography
Beautiful stock images that are free to use as you like! They have categories such as City, Cultural, General, Hospitality, Nature, People, Scenery, Street, Technology and Wildlife.
